‘Ereis’ is de naam van een aantal gipsen sculpturen van beeldend kunstenaar Dirk Zegel. Ereis is een oud woord dat ‘eens’, ‘ooit’, ‘een keer’ of ‘reis’ betekent en afstamt van ‘ene reise’ of in hedendaagse taal van ‘een reis’. Ereis refereert aan tijd en verval.
Voor Dirk persoonlijk betekent het de herinnering aan een heel specifieke ervaring. Het gevoel dat hij krijgt wanneer hij terug denkt aan de vergeten plekken die hij bezocht heeft.
De totaal verlaten gebouwen, fabrieken of dorpen waar de echo van de geschiedenis nog nagalmt maar waar de mens al lang verdwenen is en de natuur haar plek langzaam herneemt. Met Ereis wil Dirk letterlijk ‘het onzichtbare’ laten zien.
‘Ereis’ is the name of several sculptures made of modelling plaster from artist Dirk Zegel. Ereis is an old Dutch word which means ‘once’, ‘sometimes’, ‘one time’ or ‘journey’ and stems from ‘ene reise’ (‘one journey’).
‘Ereis’ refers to time and deterioration. To Dirk personally it means memories of a very specific experience. The feeling he gets when he thinks back to the forgotten places he once visited. Totally empty buildings, factories or little villages where you can you can still hear the echo of history but where man have disappeared long time ago and nature is taking over already.
With ‘Ereis’ Dirk literally wants to visualize ‘the invisible’.
